Our Regular Lawn Program is structured along industry standards and consists of an aerating, spring, summer and fall fertilizing as well as a spring and fall weed control.  As with all our programs extras would include grub control, chinch bug, sod web worm control, and crab grass arrest.  We also include a free summer inspection so we can notify you of any unexpected problems.  We also offer over seeding and other amendments for your soil. Why Aerating?

Aerating is the process of removing small plugs of soil from the turf.  Grass needs oxygen in its root areas to grow. As people walk, play football or practice swinging the golf club on their lawn, they compact the soil, squeezing it together and removing spaces that oxygen normally fills. It is best to aerate when the lawn can grow and heal itself from the process. Aerating a lawn disrupts plant roots and is stressful to the plants in the beginning. It is best to aerate in the spring and fall—when the plants are actively growing, and it is not too hot.

     Benefits of Aeration include:

Increasing the activity of soil microorganisms that decompose thatch

Enhancing water infiltration from rainfall and irrigation

        Improving root growth

Increasing water, oxygen and nutrient movement in the root zone

Helping to prevent run off of fertilizers and pesticides

Aerating your lawn at the right time with the proper equipment can ensure that you have a beautiful yard, every season of the year.

Why Fertilizing?

The three main nutrients required by lawns are:

  • nitrogen (N)
  • phosphorus (P)
  • potassium (K)

On each fertilizer bag, these numbers are indicated, they read N-P-K from left to right.  The higher the number the greater the amount of that particular nutrient.

Nitrogen promotes dark green colour, leaf and blade development, and density of the turf.

Phosphorus is important for good root and rhizome development and promotes plant maturity.

Potassium contributes to the general vigour of the plant and promotes wear, drought tolerance and winter hardiness.

Our regular lawn program offers three fertilizings. Each application is about 6-8 weeks apart.  This is sufficient time for the slow release fertilizer to have been completely absorbed.  Enough time has passed that a second or third application will not burn the lawn.

The first fertilizing takes place in the spring  to promote new growth and to green up the grass from the winter.

The second is applied in the summer to maintain a healthy lawn.

The third is applied in the fall.  Root and tiller growth is most substantial in the fall. Your lawn has passed through the stressful summer months and needs a good meal to help rebuild itself for the winter. Winterizing your lawn is a very beneficial horticultural practice.
